Getting Ahead Before Your First Module: A Personal Journey

As I gear up for the beginning of my first academic module, which is set to kick off at the end of September, I wanted to share my excitement and some strategies I’ve employed to prepare. I’ve already received my textbooks, with the module site expected to open around the 5th or 6th of this month.
Embarking on this educational journey is a novel experience for me—it’s my first time attending a university! To ensure I’m well-prepared, I’ve dedicated time to researching my field of study and have immersed myself in resources related to my degree. The thrill of learning something new really spurs me on!
I’ve been active on Reddit, exploring various tips and personal experiences from fellow students. It seems that once the module site goes live, I’ll gain deeper insights into the curriculum and the specific tasks associated with my TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments).
So far, I’ve reviewed the available module unit summaries, which provide an overview of what’s to come. I’ve also tackled some preliminary exercises from my textbooks, particularly focused on honing my referencing skills. While I anticipate that there will be a wealth of material to cover once we officially begin, I believe that familiarizing myself with the content beforehand will ease my transition, especially when confronting new concepts.
With my daughter expected to arrive in January, I’m conscious of planning ahead, particularly since it coincides with two TMAs. It’s crucial for me to get a head start now, which will help alleviate the stress of managing academic commitments alongside a newborn.
