Caught in a Crossroads: Should I Stay the Course or Change Direction?

As I approach the finish line of my undergraduate studies, I find myself grappling with a significant dilemma. I’m currently in the thick of my Computing Project, but a series of obstacles—including my tutor’s extended absence due to illness and a personal health issue that left me more fatigued than I anticipated—have severely hampered my progress.

On paper, I could probably write a research paper and scrape by without actually diving into my project work. However, I’m acutely aware that this approach would likely lead to subpar results. As someone with ADHD and suspected autism, the absence of structure during this critical phase has made the journey even more challenging. With a daunting requirement of 15,000 words still ahead of me, the thought of finalizing everything feels overwhelming.

During my Open Degree, I discovered my passion for design while completing Level 2 & 3 courses, and even had the rewarding experience of a design internship at my university. This exploration into creativity has left me feeling inspired, but also frustrated with the current trajectory of my studies.

Recently, I stumbled upon a Level 3 Business course focused on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This course piques my interest not only because it promises a more structured environment with fewer demands, but also due to my keen desire to delve into the world of business. Despite not having a formal background in academic business studies, I believe my previous design coursework gives me a solid foundation to build upon.

After years of studying—since 2018, to be exact—I’m feeling utterly drained. I’ve switched subjects multiple times, and the prospect of either pushing through the current course or making a shift in direction looms large. The thought of making a move this October to avoid hitting a wall is both daunting and enticing.
