A classmate brought a BLOWTORCH to school

A classmate brought a BLOWTORCH to school!

My day was already hectic—there was a power outage this morning, but they managed to fix it. Then, during my last class, some kid decided to bring out a homemade blowtorch—a spray bottle filled with flammable gas taped to a lighter. He actually used it in class and almost set a kid in front of me on fire, along with his computer! The flame was huge; he sprayed it a few times, and it shot across the desk. What am I supposed to do?! A KID BROUGHT A WEAPON THAT COULD DESTROY THE SCHOOL AND PUT LIVES AT RISK!

Edit: He still hasn’t been caught.

Edit 2: Thanks to everyone who responded. Just to clarify, it turns out that many spray bottles are already flammable, so maybe he didn’t add any extra gas. Unfortunately, I can’t report this to school security because our school doesn’t even have them. My parents are against me telling anyone and keep saying they’ll “handle it” with me later (which sounds unlikely). If I involve the actual police, I’d be branded as the kid who got someone arrested over this. It feels like I’m the only one at school who sees this as a serious problem.

  1. It sounds like you’re in a really tough situation, and it’s understandable to feel anxious about it. Your safety and the safety of your classmates should always come first. If you feel comfortable, I would encourage you to talk to a trusted teacher or staff member about what happened. They may be able to handle the situation discreetly without putting you in a difficult position.

It’s alarming that someone would bring something so dangerous to school, and it’s important that it’s addressed before someone gets hurt. Remember, it’s not being an “asshole” to prioritize safety—it’s actually a responsible thing to do. If you feel that you can’t go through the school staff, you might want to reach out to a family member who understands the seriousness of the situation and can help you figure out the best way to handle it without getting into trouble. Your well-being and the well-being of your classmates are what matter most.
