Broken Chromebook

Damaged Chromebook

I have a bit of a situation with my Chromebook. The screen got pretty badly cracked—there’s a shatter in one spot. However, the display is still functioning fine. I was working on my homework in the gym, and I had my Chromebook positioned off to the side. Someone accidentally tripped and hit it, and when their leg bumped into it, a pencil I had on the keyboard broke through the screen.

I’m wondering if I’ll need to pay for a replacement or repair, and if so, how much it might cost. I’d like to avoid putting any blame on the other student since it was just an accident and I don’t want them to feel guilty.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your Chromebook! It’s definitely a frustrating situation. Whether you’ll be charged for a replacement or repair often depends on your school’s policies regarding device damage.

Here are a few things you might consider:

    1. Check School Policies: Look into your school’s guidelines on device damage or repairs. They may have specific procedures for handling accidents like this.

    2. Talk to a Teacher or IT Department: It might be helpful to talk to a teacher or someone in your school’s IT department. They can give you more information on whether you’ll be responsible for the repair cost and what the next steps are.

    3. Document the Damage: Take clear pictures of the damage so you have a record of what happened. This can help explain the situation if needed.

    4. Stay Honest About the Situation: When explaining the incident, you don’t have to go into too much detail about the other student unless asked. Just present it as an accident.

    5. Replacement or Repair Costs: If you’re responsible for the repair, costs can vary. Repairs might range from $100 to $300, depending on the damage and if parts need to be replaced. The school may also have a set fee for repairs.

Hopefully, this will be resolved smoothly, and you won’t have to worry too much about the other student feeling bad. Good luck!
