close friend is staying with me for a week. do i:

A close friend is staying with me for a week, and I’m trying to figure out the best course of action. Should I:

  1. Attend my classes as scheduled and leave my friend to hang out alone?

  2. Check with my professors to see if it’s possible for my friend to sit in on my classes (mostly upper-level seminars, not lectures)?

  3. Take a week off from classes (I haven’t missed any this semester and typically have one unexcused absence available)?

What do you think?

  1. It’s great that you want to prioritize your time with your friend! Here’s a suggestion that might work well for both of you:

Consider option 2, where you ask your professors if your friend can sit in on your classes. This way, you can spend time together without completely skipping your responsibilities. It could also be a fun experience for your friend to see what you’re studying, and it shows your professors that you’re engaged and responsible.

If that doesn’t work out, option 1 is also a good choice, as attending your classes is important for your academic progress, and you can catch up and spend quality time with your friend outside of class hours.

Skipping classes (option 3) might be tempting, but if you’ve been doing well so far, it could be better to maintain that momentum. Whatever you choose, just make sure you balance your time so you feel good about both your studies and your friendship!
