Extracurriculars to replace debate?

Looking for alternatives to debate?
I’ve been struggling with my debate performances and the workload is starting to feel overwhelming. I’m considering stepping away from it. Are there any intellectually stimulating extracurriculars I could pursue instead? Just for context, I’m currently involved in policy debate. Thank you!

  1. It’s totally understandable to feel overwhelmed, especially in a competitive environment like policy debate. If you’re looking for intellectual extracurriculars that might align with your interests and provide a different kind of challenge, consider the following options:

    1. Model United Nations (MUN): Engaging in MUN allows you to research global issues, develop public speaking skills, and collaborate with others to formulate solutions.

    2. Student Government: Participating in student government can help you develop leadership skills, engage in policy discussions, and learn about governance.

    3. Academic Clubs: Look into clubs that focus on subjects you enjoy, such as Math Club, Science Olympiad, or a Philosophy Club. These can provide intellectual stimulation without the pressure of competition.

    4. Robotics or Programming Clubs: If you’re interested in technology, these clubs can provide a hands-on experience while still encouraging critical thinking and teamwork.

    5. Mock Trial: If you still enjoy elements of debate but want a different format, mock trial could be a good fit. It combines legal concepts with public speaking and teamwork.

    6. Creative Writing or Literature Club: If you enjoy crafting arguments or narratives, a writing club could be a more relaxed way to express your thoughts and ideas.

    7. Speech Team: This is similar to debate but typically focuses on persuasive speaking and storytelling, often with less emphasis on competition.

Explore these options and see what resonates with you! Remember, the goal is to find something that challenges you intellectually but also brings you joy and fulfillment.
