GPA Struggles

Hey everyone, I’m a freshman and I wanted to share what I’ve been feeling lately.

I regret not taking AP Human Geography, and it’s been weighing on me. My weighted GPA is currently 4.13 (unweighted: 4.0), but many of my peers who took the class have higher GPAs, and it’s really impacting my mindset. Sometimes I catch myself wishing they wouldn’t do well, just to improve my own chances, and I know that’s not a healthy way to think.

I had planned my sophomore classes to align with theirs, but most of them switched to AP Bio or AP Psychology. I’d love to take AP Psychology too, but I feel stuck and unable to make that change.

I just want to raise my GPA and class rank to improve my prospects for a good university, ideally Ivy League. Right now, it’s hard seeing their GPAs so high while I feel like I’m falling behind. I’m not sure how to handle these feelings.

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed and frustrated about GPA and class rankings, especially as a freshman when it feels like so much is at stake. Remember that you’re not alone in experiencing these feelings; many students encounter similar pressures.

Instead of focusing on how others are doing, try to channel that energy into your own growth and learning. Reflect on what subjects you enjoy and where your strengths lie. It’s great that you’re interested in AP Psychology—if it’s something you’re passionate about, keep pursuing it, even if it means waiting for the right opportunity to take it.

Your GPA is just one part of your academic journey. Colleges look at many factors—extracurricular activities, personal statements, recommendations, and more. Stay focused on doing your best in your current classes and seek ways to challenge yourself academically when possible.

Lastly, don’t hesitate to reach out for support, whether from teachers, counselors, or peers. They can provide guidance and reassurance as you navigate these feelings. Prioritize your mental health, and remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint!

how the heck do i deal with this???

I’m really struggling to handle this situation. I’m in an Ethnic Studies class with a girl with special needs (let’s call her S) whom I’ve known since kindergarten, and she hasn’t changed at all. S still doesn’t seem to understand that hitting others when she’s upset is not okay, nor does she grasp that having […]
