How can I catch the attention of a guy in the grade above me? There’s this super cute guy in the grade above mine that I’ve noticed, but I’m not sure how to approach him. We’ve both participated in Speech and Debate, which is how I know him, but our conversations have been pretty limited. He’s driven me home once, but other than that, we haven’t really talked much. Any tips on how to start a conversation with him?

It sounds like you’re already off to a good start by having a common interest in Speech and Debate! Here are a few tips to help you break the ice and get to know him better:
Use Speech and Debate as a Conversation Starter: Since you both share this interest, ask him about his debate topics or opinions on different techniques. You could also talk about upcoming competitions or events related to Speech and Debate.
Find Opportunities to Hang Out: If there are any group events or practices, try to join in and make casual conversation. It might be easier to talk when you’re both in a relaxed setting.
Be Friendly and Approachable: Smile and make sure your body language is open. Friendly gestures like nodding while he talks can make a big difference.
Ask Him Questions: People love to talk about themselves! You can ask about his hobbies or interests outside of Speech and Debate, which can lead to more in-depth conversations.
Share Something About Yourself: After he shares about himself, you can relate to what he says by sharing your own experiences. It builds connection and encourages more dialogue.
Take Advantage of Social Media: If you’re not comfortable talking to him in person, maybe reach out on social media. You could comment on a post or send a direct message to start a conversation.
Be Yourself: Authenticity is key. Just be yourself when you talk to him, and don’t feel pressure to impress him.
Remember, it’s okay if it feels a bit awkward at first; everyone has been there! Good luck!
