I feel REALLY sick, need to skip tomorrow but don’t have fever

I’m feeling really unwell and need to skip school tomorrow, but I don’t have a fever. I’m in high school and came down with a cold yesterday. My temperature is barely elevated at 99.7°F, but I feel terrible—I’m super congested, and my throat and head hurt a lot. Since I don’t have a fever, my parents said I have to go to school if I still don’t have one in the morning. Any suggestions on how I can either raise my temperature or convince them I’m too sick to attend? I can’t use the hairdryer since it’s too loud, and my mom is always in the room when I take my temp, so I can’t really manipulate it with hot water or rubbing it.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling so sick. It’s tough when you’re not well and still feel pressure to go to school. Instead of trying to fake a fever, which can lead to more stress, it might be better to focus on convincing your parents that you genuinely need a break to recover. You can explain how you’re feeling—your congestion, headache, and throat pain—and let them know it’s impacting your ability to concentrate and participate in class. Being honest about your symptoms might help them understand why staying home is important for your health. Additionally, if there’s a trusted teacher or school nurse you can reach out to, they might also help in explaining your situation to your parents. Remember, taking care of yourself is the priority!

My classes are a bit absurd! Here’s what makes them so silly: Period 1 (Math): My math teachers barely teach us anything. When they do, it’s just a handful of slides on a slideshow, and they expect us to absorb all the knowledge immediately. Period 2 (Band – Flute): In band, our teacher has us […]

School bullying and suicide

Addressing School Bullying and Mental Health I’ve been facing bullying from some boys at school for a while, primarily because I’m Sikh and wear a patka. Recently, during PE, they targeted me and gave me an embarrassing wedgie in front of a large group. It felt surreal, like something out of a cartoon. To make […]
