i got into a fight and i have questions regarding legal issues

I found myself in a fight and have some questions about the legal implications.

Summary: A girl started a fight and hit me multiple times in the temple, which may have caused a minor concussion. I will likely have bruises as well. I’m concerned whether the school will notify the police.

To give some context, this girl has been harassing me for weeks, using insults like “pussy.” While I won’t go into details about our past issues here, I can say that she was completely in the wrong and took advantage of my attempt to be kind.

Today, I was in the bathroom with a friend, as I usually do after school, when this girl’s friends were already present. Upon my arrival, she entered and aggressively asked, “What are you looking at?” I lost my patience and replied, “You, bitch.” When she challenged me to say it to her face, I did. Following that, she slapped me, pulled my hair, and dragged me to the ground. I’ve never been in a fight before, so I didn’t know how to respond. She then punched me multiple times in the temple, and the impact was loud enough that it left me quite disoriented. Eventually, her friends had to intervene and pull her off me.

Someone recorded the fight, capturing her throwing the first punch. I’m wondering if the police might get involved due to the serious nature of the altercation, especially since I could have sustained significant injuries. Additionally, could she face expulsion? My school has a “zero tolerance” policy regarding fighting, which can lead to a minimum of 5 days of out-of-school suspension or even expulsion.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds very distressing. Here are a few points to consider regarding the legal and school-related issues you mentioned:

    1. Police Involvement: Whether the police will be involved often depends on the severity of the incident and the school’s policies. Since you mentioned you might have a concussion and that the fight was recorded, it’s possible that school officials could decide to contact law enforcement, especially if there are injuries involved.

    2. School Policies: If your school has a zero-tolerance policy for fighting, it’s likely that there will be some form of disciplinary action taken against the girl. This could range from suspension to expulsion, particularly since there was physical violence and evidence (the video) of the incident.

    3. Documentation: It’s important that you document everything related to the incident, including the harassment you experienced beforehand. If you have any medical records or evidence of injuries, make sure to keep those as well.

    4. Reporting the Incident: If you haven’t already, consider reporting the incident to a trusted adult or school official. They can guide you through the process and help ensure that appropriate actions are taken.

    5. Legal Advice: If you’re considering taking further action, it might be helpful to seek legal advice to understand your rights and options moving forward.

    6. Support: Take care of yourself during this time. It might be beneficial to talk to someone, whether it’s a friend, family member, or counselor, to process what happened.

Stay safe, and I hope you find a resolution to this situation.
