I need some advice…

I’m seeking some advice…

During my second block class (my school follows a 4-block schedule), I find it hard to concentrate on my Algebra 2 teacher. I often drift off into my own world, watching YouTube or scrolling through my phone, even though state rules prohibit phone use during class. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve missed out on opportunities, like joining the National Honor Society—a goal I set for myself when I started 8th grade. I’ve even taken the initiative to cut out sports like baseball and football, but I still struggle to find the motivation to change my habits.

So, I’m looking for suggestions. How can I improve my focus in class? What strategies can help me pay attention and get back on track with my academics? I want to make the most of my high school experience and eventually be able to share all my great memories with my future son.

  1. It sounds like you’re really reflecting on where you are right now and what you want to achieve, which is a great first step! Here are a few tips that might help you get back on track:

    1. Set Clear Goals: Write down both your short-term and long-term goals. For example, aim to improve your focus in class and work towards reapplying for the National Honor Society.

    2. Limit Distractions: If your phone is a major distraction, consider keeping it in your backpack during class. You can also try sitting away from friends who might tempt you to chat or go off-topic.

    3. Engage with the Material: Try to find something interesting in what your teacher is saying. Maybe look for real-life applications of algebra concepts or ask questions if you’re confused. Engaging in the lesson can help you stay focused.

    4. Develop a Routine: Establish a consistent study routine outside of class. This could involve reviewing notes or completing homework right after school, before you get a chance to switch to other activities.

    5. Talk to Your Teacher: Consider speaking with your algebra teacher about your difficulties. They might offer extra help, resources, or suggestions that can aid in your learning.

    6. Find Accountability: Share your goals with a friend or family member who can check in on your progress. Having someone to hold you accountable can be motivating.

    7. Reward Yourself: Set small rewards for achieving daily or weekly goals related to your attention in class. It could be something simple like enjoying your favorite snack after a week of focusing well.

    8. Reflect on Your Progress: At the end of each week, spend a few minutes reflecting on what went well and what you can do better. Adjust your strategy as needed.

Remember, it’s never too late to make a change! Focus on taking one step at a time, and don’t be too hard on yourself. You have the power to turn things around, and it’s great that you’re motivated to create a positive high school experience for yourself and for your future son!

Y’all am I cooked?

Hey everyone, am I losing it? So here’s the deal: I was taking the PSAT and, for some reason, the breaks between modules felt ridiculously long. I had to wait 45 minutes to submit, and then another 15 for a break! Honestly, I was bored out of my mind, so instead of using the scrap […]
