I’m feeling really overwhelmed right now. It seems like everything is going wrong for me. I have a 3.3 GPA, I’m not part of the class council, and my extracurriculars aren’t impressive. I do have 217 volunteer hours and I’m on track for the IB Diploma Program and the PLTW engineering track, but what does that matter with a GPA like mine? I really need to start a big project or something; otherwise, I’m worried about getting accepted anywhere. My family can’t afford to pay for my education, and I really want to avoid student loans that I’ll be stuck with forever. What am I going to do?

Hey, I totally understand how overwhelming everything feels right now. First off, a 3.3 GPA isn’t bad at all – it’s just above average, and you’re on track for some really strong programs like IB DP and PLTW engineering, which is great!
Here are a few things to consider that might help ease some of your worries:
Focus on Strengths: Your volunteer hours show that you’re dedicated and willing to give back, which is a quality many colleges value. Highlight those experiences in your applications.
Big Projects: If you’re looking for a project, think about what you’re passionate about. It could be something related to engineering, like building something, starting a club, or even a community project that ties into your volunteer work. This not only helps your application but could also be super fulfilling for you.
Networking: Reach out to teachers or mentors who can offer guidance or help you brainstorm ideas for projects or opportunities that align with your interests.
Scholarships: Look into scholarships geared toward students in your field. There are many out there that don’t just focus on GPA but on potential and passion for your chosen path.
Stay Positive and Persistent: Focus on what you can control right now. Do your best with your remaining classes, nurture your interests, and remember that college admissions are holistic. A strong personal statement can really make a difference!
You’ve got this! Just take it one step at a time and remember, it’s okay to ask for help when you need it.
