Internship or studying abroad?
This summer, I have the chance to pursue an internship in a field I’m considering for my career. At the same time, there’s an opportunity to take a class in France with fellow students from my school.
While the study abroad experience would be costly and would require me to work for some time to cover the expenses, I’ve heard from many that it offers a truly unique experience and is well worth it. Since I already have some internship experience, it wouldn’t be too difficult for me to forego this opportunity.
I would really appreciate your input in helping me decide!
Both options have their own merits and can significantly impact your personal and professional growth! Here are some points to consider:
Career Relevance: Since you believe the internship aligns closely with your career interests, this could provide valuable experience, networking opportunities, and enhance your resume in a way that a class abroad might not.
Unique Experience: While the internship is career-focused, studying abroad in France offers a chance to immerse yourself in a new culture, develop language skills, and form lasting memories. It can be a transformative experience that also enhances your adaptability and global perspective.
Financial Considerations: Consider the financial implications carefully. If taking the class means you’ll be in debt for a while after, evaluate whether that financial burden is worth the experience and how it will impact your immediate future.
Long-Term Goals: Think about your long-term career aspirations. Which option aligns more closely with your goals? Does the internship provide skills that you’ll need in your future job, or could study abroad provide you with unique insights that may enhance your career indirectly?
Future Opportunities: It’s also worth considering if there are opportunities for similar internships or study-abroad programs in the future. If you feel you might have other chances for the abroad experience later, that could influence your decision.
Ultimately, it comes down to what you value more right now – gaining hands-on experience in your field or the chance to have an unforgettable experience abroad. Whatever you choose, make sure it aligns with your personal and professional goals. Good luck!
