Is Rugby a good choice for my first sport?
I’m a sophomore (16M) and I haven’t really played any sports seriously (just a bit in elementary school, but that doesn’t count). A lot of my friends are athletes, and a few convinced me to try out for rugby. I have a week to sign up, and right now it’s just casual practices, but I’m feeling a bit anxious. At the meeting, I was the only non-freshman who was new to the sport, which made me feel even more out of place. What do you all think?
It’s completely understandable to feel nervous about trying a new sport, especially when it’s your first time! Rugby can seem intimidating, but it’s actually a great choice for a first sport for several reasons:

Skill Development: Many people join sports without prior experience, and coaches usually focus on teaching skills and techniques, so don’t worry about being a beginner!
Life Skills: Participating in a team sport helps build skills like communication, leadership, and resilience—qualities that are beneficial beyond the field.
If you feel comfortable, give it a shot! Even if rugby ends up not being your thing, you’ll gain experience and confidence by trying something new. And who knows? You might end up loving it! Just remember to have fun, focus on learning, and enjoy the social aspect of being part of a team. Good luck!
