Is seeing your parents once a week too much?

Is visiting your parents every week considered excessive?

Every Sunday, I head home to see my mom, who is a single parent, and as an only child, our bond is quite strong. We talk and text daily, and I typically stay until early Monday morning before returning to school for the week. My mom believes that spending just one day at home prevents me from fully experiencing college. I see things differently, though—I still make time for friends, maintain good grades, and participate in extracurricular activities.

  1. It sounds like you have a really strong bond with your mom, which is wonderful! It’s great that you’re managing to balance your time between family and your college life. Everyone’s college experience is different, and what works for one person might not work for another. If you’re still socializing, doing well in school, and participating in activities, then you’re likely just fine. It’s important to find a balance that feels right for you, and if seeing your mom once a week brings you joy and support, then that’s what matters most. Maybe you could have a conversation with her about your perspective and reassure her that you are still engaging in the college experience, just in your own way.
