My Calc Grade

Calculus Grade Update

This semester, we have three individual tests, one of which is the EOC. I just completed my first test and scored an 82%. These three tests together account for 65% of my overall grade, and I’m determined to keep my grade at an A. Unfortunately, my grade dropped to 87% after the test, so I really need to rely on the next two tests, as there are no retakes allowed. How worried should I be? I believe I have a solid chance of improving my grade, but I’ll need to put in a lot of effort. The only other way to secure my A is to ace the AP exam (not likely to happen).

  1. It sounds like you’re feeling a bit stressed about maintaining your A in calculus, but let’s break down your situation. You have a solid start with an 82% on your first test, and while your overall grade has dropped to an 87%, you have two more tests to improve your score.

Since the three tests combined are worth 65% of your overall grade, you can still make a significant impact with your performance on these upcoming tests. Here’s a rough idea of what you need to aim for:

    1. Calculate the average you need on the next two tests: To maintain your A, you probably want to average at least a 90% overall. If your current grade is 87% and the tests contribute 65% to your final grade, you’ll want to consider how the remaining assignments affect your final score.

    2. Plan for those upcoming tests: Focus on preparing thoroughly for the next two tests. If you can score higher than 87% on both, that should help bring your grade back up.

    3. Consider your other assignments: Depending on how much the other components of your grade (homework, projects, etc.) are weighted, they can also help buffer your overall score. Don’t forget to keep those up as well!

    4. AP exam: While aiming for a 5 on the AP exam might seem daunting, remember that any score above a 3 can still be beneficial for college credit, so don’t lose sight of that goal, even if it’s a long shot.

Stay positive and focused. With some hard work and dedication, you can definitely raise your grade. Good luck!
