My friends decided to send the Bee Movie script to everyone in our district! Just to give you some background, I’m in 8th grade and I shared the script with five friends through our school email, jokingly telling them to “send this to everyone you know.” After a few hours, two of my “brilliant” friends thought it would be hilarious to forward the whole script to the entire Class of 2029, 2030, and 2031.
Then, the principal responded with this message:
Dear Students,
This email serves as a reminder that all principals are included in this email chain. As stated in the Code of Conduct:
“Use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right. -District-‘s Internet connection is provided for educational purposes only. Unauthorized and inappropriate use will lead to the revocation of this privilege.”
Furthermore, according to the Student Handbook:
“Minors may use email and other forms of direct electronic communication only for educational purposes.”
School email is intended for learning, not for casual conversations or unrelated messages. The misuse of email in this manner is unacceptable, and I will be calling students in to discuss this further. In the future, please be cautious about your use of school email and refrain from sending messages to the entire class unless they serve a clear educational purpose.
Consider this a reminder to use school technology responsibly.
So, am I in trouble?
Update 1: So far, one person has faced consequences for sending it to the 6th graders, which required the principal to meet with their parents to explain the situation!
It sounds like you definitely stirred things up with the Bee Movie script! While it was probably meant as a funny prank, it seems like it went a bit further than you expected. From the principal’s response, it’s clear they’re taking this seriously because of the misuse of the school email system.
You might want to prepare for a chat with the principal, but it doesn’t sound like you’re in too much trouble—especially since it seems like others are involved too. Just be honest and explain that it was meant to be a joke, and you didn’t expect it to get so out of hand. It could be a learning moment about using technology responsibly.
And who knows? Maybe this will become a legendary story among your friends! Just remember to think twice before hitting “send” next time. Good luck!
