My Gap Year Experience

My Gap Year Journey

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my gap year experience in case anyone is considering taking one.

I chose to take a gap year because I was uncertain about what to major in, and I wanted to avoid wasting money figuring it out, especially since I come from a low-income background. To be honest, it wasn’t the easiest year for me. I felt quite lonely and isolated since most of my friends were off in college while I was working full time. It definitely impacted my mental health, and I didn’t have as much fun as I hoped.

That said, I don’t regret my decision. It gave me the clarity I needed to confidently choose my major when I finally started college. Plus, I was able to save money, which was a huge bonus! Although the experience had its challenges, it was invaluable in ensuring that college was the right choice for me.

If you’re considering a gap year, I recommend it, but be prepared for the potential loneliness. Make sure to save as much money as you can and take the time to explore different career paths, weighing their pros and cons. Now that I’m in college, I’m really happy with my choice! I even ended up switching my major, but I feel much more certain about the direction I want to go in with this new path.
