PE Update

I just discovered something really important that I need to share.

My PE teacher is pretty unpopular at our school because she has a reputation for being tough, and I feel like she was singling me out.

During our PE class, I was on my period and asked to be excused from running the two laps around the gym. She kept insisting that exercising while on your period is beneficial. But apparently, running isn’t! I ended up running just one lap, but before that, we had to alternate between jogging and doing a movement called karaoke. I didn’t want to do the karaoke because I’m clumsy, but I jogged anyway. Even so, she still got upset with me, and I wasn’t the only one who was struggling!

Just the day before, I accidentally got hit in the back of the head with a football, and she seemed genuinely concerned and checked to see if I was okay. But later, when I needed a moment to calm down, she kept insisting that I get back up, even though I was on the verge of tears. I even tried to send an email to my mom on my Chromebook to let her know what was going on. I know Chromebooks aren’t allowed in PE, but I thought my mom should know right away.

When she called me over again, I explained, “I just got hit in the back of the head with a football. What do you expect?” Instead of understanding, she accused me of having an attitude. I could barely speak because I was trying so hard not to cry.

I can’t stand that teacher.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear that you’re having such a tough experience in PE. It sounds incredibly frustrating and overwhelming, especially with everything you’re dealing with. Your health and comfort should always come first, and it’s understandable to want to take care of yourself during your period.

It’s really unfair that you felt targeted and pressured to participate when you were clearly not feeling well, both physically and emotionally. It’s important for teachers to recognize when a student needs a break or isn’t up for certain activities, and it sounds like your teacher missed that.

Have you thought about talking to a trusted adult, like a school counselor or another teacher, about what’s been going on? They might be able to help you address the situation. Remember, you deserve to feel supported and respected in your classes!
