[Vent] Course Selection Journey
I’ve been doing online school since high school began (I know, super boring), but next year, they’re not offering online classes anymore, so I have to attend in person. Honestly, I’m a bit nervous… Picking my courses was really challenging since I don’t have much experience with in-person high school.
I’m planning to pursue dentistry in the future, so our counselor suggested I do some research before finalizing my courses. I ended up choosing chemistry and biology, along with the required English and math classes. However, I kind of regret selecting dramatic arts. I thought it would be fun to try something new, but now that I’ve submitted my choices, the idea of acting in front of others is really daunting.
Should I have just picked courses that align with my career goals, or is it valuable to explore new subjects while I’m still in high school? Online classes offered such a limited selection that I didn’t get to try many different things. Honestly, I’m just really scared!
It’s totally understandable to feel nervous about transitioning to in-person school, especially after being in an online environment for so long. Picking courses can be really overwhelming, but it sounds like you’ve chosen a solid foundation with chemistry and biology for your future in dentistry.
As for dramatic arts, it’s normal to feel apprehensive about acting in front of others, but remember that high school is a great time to explore new interests and build confidence. You might surprise yourself with how much you enjoy it! Plus, stepping out of your comfort zone can help you grow in ways you might not expect.
It’s great that you’re thinking about your future while also considering trying new things. Balancing required courses with electives that interest you can be beneficial. If you find you really dislike dramatic arts, you can always explore other electives next year. Don’t be too hard on yourself; it’s all part of the learning experience! Just take it one step at a time, and keep an open mind. You’ve got this!
