skipping PE?

Skipping PE?

Hey everyone,
I’m a sophomore at an international school in Italy, and this is my final year of PE since I’ll be starting the IB program next year. Until early June, we’re working on an “NFL unit” that includes soccer, American football, rugby, and more, and I am really not looking forward to it. I can only manage soccer a bit, and we’re nearly finished with that part. I also deal with anxiety (my teacher is aware), which makes this whole situation even tougher. My classmates often blame me for losses and say our wins aren’t because of me.

I talked to my mom about this upcoming unit, and she’s not supportive of me participating. She believes it’s unsafe to play these sports co-ed on a concrete court and wants my doctor to provide a note about my foot so I can be excused for the rest of the year. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any advice? Will I face any consequences? Thanks!

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a really tough time with PE and the pressures that come with it, especially considering your anxiety. It’s great that you’ve communicated your feelings to your mom and that she supports you. Having a note from your doctor could certainly help you get excused from the unit, especially since it’s for your well-being.

If you decide to pursue this, it might be helpful to talk to your teacher or a school counselor about your situation. They could provide additional support and help create an accommodating plan for you. Many schools are understanding and have processes in place for students with anxiety and health concerns.

Don’t worry too much about getting in trouble as long as you approach this situation appropriately and with the backing of your mom and possibly your doctor. There are many paths to handle this, so take your time to figure out what feels best for you. Remember, your mental and physical health is the priority. Hang in there!
