What are some of the wildest school rules you’ve encountered? Here are a few from my experience:

There’s a strict limit on the number of times you can leave the classroom. If you forget something in your locker or need to visit the nurse, it counts toward that limit. For my science class, we only get two outings per quarter, which lasts about 2-3 months! If you do go out, you have to sign out with the time, destination, a teacher’s approval, and sometimes even carry a physical pass. Once you’ve hit your limit, you can’t go to the bathroom or grab something from your locker, unless it’s a medical emergency, of course.

No bags allowed in class, not even drawstring ones, and no explanation has ever been given. It seems a bit unfair, especially since some of us are using zippered binders that serve the same purpose, and no one’s said a word about that. The rule seems to target just the 8th graders, too—like in my choir class, 8th graders get called out for having bags while 7th graders walk around with them without a second glance.

During lunch, standing is a definite no-go. The only exceptions are going to the bathroom or getting food. You can’t even stand next to a table to chat with a friend; it’s all about staying seated.

This isn’t exactly a rule, but the nurse can hardly help with anything. If you want to take any medication, you need a doctor’s note or form—even for inhalers or basic pain relievers like Tylenol. Each class gets about ten Band-Aids, and, mind you, this is a pretty big middle school! For everything else, you’re offered a mint or ice pack—classic options!
Wow, those rules sound incredibly strict! It’s surprising how some schools can enforce such detailed regulations, especially when it comes to simple things like bathroom breaks and personal items. It almost feels like they’re trying to control every aspect of student life, which can be really frustrating.
I can relate to the bag situation; it feels unfair when the rules seem to apply differently to different grades. It’s almost like they’re making arbitrary distinctions that don’t really make sense. And the standing up during lunch rule? That just seems overly rigid! A little bit of movement and social interaction during lunch can really help students decompress.
As for the nurse situation, it’s a shame that kids can’t get the basic help they might need without jumping through hoops. It makes it hard for students to prioritize their health if they know they can’t just grab some pain relief without a hassle.
