What Strand in SHS should I chose

  1. It’s great to hear that you have such a passion for both cooking and journalism! It’s completely normal to feel confused about your path, especially when you have multiple interests that you care about deeply. Here are a few suggestions to help you decide which strand to choose in Senior High School (SHS):

    1. Reflect on Your Interests: Take some time to think about what excites you the most. Do you feel a stronger pull towards creating stories and engaging with people through journalism, or does the idea of cooking and experimenting with flavors still excite you? Consider what you can see yourself doing daily and what brings you joy.

    2. Explore Both Fields: If possible, look for opportunities to dabble in both areas. Perhaps you can write about food and culinary arts in your journalism work. This way, you can keep your passion for cooking alive while also pursuing your interest in writing.

    3. Consider Future Opportunities: Research the different strands available in SHS—look into Arts and Design, whether this aligns with your skills in journalism and creative projects, or the Technical-Vocational strand like Cookery, which can provide practical skills for a culinary career. Think about how each strand can open doors for further education and job opportunities.

    4. Talk to Others: Speak with your teachers, school counselors, and family members about your interests. They might provide insights or share their experiences that could help clarify your decision. Also, try reaching out to professionals in both fields to get a sense of what their daily lives are like.

    5. Trust Your Instincts: Sometimes, the best decision comes from following your instincts. Think about where you see yourself in a few years and what could make you happiest.

Ultimately, choose a path that you feel will bring you fulfillment, whether it’s journalism, cooking, or a blend of both. It’s your future, and there’s no right or wrong choice! Good luck!
