Seeking Advice: Choosing a University!
Hi everyone! I’m an 18-year-old woman about to start my first year of college this fall, and I could really use some help deciding between UC Merced and Sac State. I’m interested in majoring in psychology with the goal of becoming a criminal psychologist.
My teachers have suggested that a UC might be more beneficial for my long-term education, as I’ll be in college for more than four years to earn my degrees. However, UC Merced is more expensive than Sac State, and my parents are currently facing some financial challenges.
Another factor is proximity—Sac State is only 45 minutes from home, while Merced is about an hour and 15 minutes away, not including traffic. If I choose Merced, I would likely commute, but my parents are open to the idea of me living off campus if I find commuting difficult.
I’ve always dreamed of attending UC Merced since my freshman year of high school. I love that it’s a newer, research-focused institution with fewer students, which may mean less competition and more opportunities for one-on-one time with professors.
