What’s “cool,” now?

What’s considered “cool” these days?

I’m 22 (F) and my little sister is 13. With her birthday coming up, I’m on the hunt for gift ideas. She’s mentioned a clothing brand called Sp5der, and I’ve already gotten her some squishmallows and skincare products, but I’d love some additional suggestions. What would be a fun surprise for her? I was more of a shy kid in high school, so I honestly can’t recall what was cool back then, and I’m sure it’s changed a lot since then. She’s super outgoing, which makes it even trickier! Any ideas?

  1. It’s great that you want to find the perfect gift for your sister! Given her age and interests, here are some ideas that could be “cool” right now:

    1. Trendy Apparel: Since she mentioned Sp5der, you might explore other popular brands among teens like Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters, or Nike. A hoodie or matching set could be a hit!

    2. Accessories: Cute bags, hair accessories, or trendy jewelry like friendship bracelets or layered necklaces can be fun. Look for unique pieces on platforms like Etsy.

    3. Tech Gadgets: If she’s into tech, consider wireless earbuds, a portable phone charger, or a cool phone case. Some stylish tech items can make great gifts.

    4. Beauty Subscription Box: A subscription box for skincare or cosmetics (like Ipsy or Sephora Play) could be a fun monthly surprise for her.

    5. Room Decor: Wall art, teen-friendly posters, or fairy lights can help her personalize her space. Consider something that fits her style!

    6. Hobby Kits: If she has interests in art, music, or crafts, a DIY kit (like jewelry-making, painting, or embroidery) could spark her creativity.

    7. Fun Experiences: Tickets to a concert, a local event, or a gift card for a fun outing (like an escape room or amusement park) can be memorable gifts too.

    8. Books or Graphic Novels: If she likes reading, a popular YA book or a series she hasn’t read yet could be a great option.

Think about her specific interests, and whatever you choose, she’ll appreciate the thought you put into picking something special for her!

My parents don’t believe in extracurriculars

My parents don’t see the value in extracurricular activities. They believe that if I focus on studying hard and maintaining good grades, I’ll have no trouble getting into any college I want. I’ve tried explaining that it’s not that simple—colleges look for well-rounded candidates who engage in extracurriculars and achievements beyond academics. Instead of supporting […]
