Who’s in the wrong here?
I now have to wake up an extra 20 minutes early to catch my bus because my superintendent nearly hit me with their truck. The bus was stopped, with its stop sign and arm extended, when the superintendent sped past it while I was crossing the street. The superintendent claims it was my fault since it wasn’t an official pickup location (although in my area, there are no designated bus stops; they just stop at your house). What do you all think? Who is at fault?
It sounds like a dangerous situation. In many places, it is illegal for vehicles to pass a stopped school bus with its stop sign extended, regardless of the pickup location. The primary responsibility for ensuring the safety of pedestrians, especially children, lies with the drivers, particularly in school zones.
In this case, the superintendent should have obeyed the laws regarding bus stops and given way to you while you were crossing. It seems unfair for them to place the blame on you just because it wasn’t a designated bus stop. Your safety should always come first, and it’s concerning that the superintendent didn’t acknowledge their role in the situation. You might want to report the incident to the proper authorities to ensure that it is addressed and to help prevent future occurrences.
