Severe Senioritis Setting In
I’m officially over high school. Senior year is way more hyped than it actually is. “It’ll be a blast,” they told me, but honestly, it’s just dull. I’m completely lacking in motivation and energy. I submitted my college applications in early October and received my acceptance in December. With all my graduation requirements out of the way, I’m just gliding through, and it’s honestly terrible. My only reason for showing up to school is to stay socially connected and hang out with my friends, but even that sometimes isn’t enough to lift my spirits. The moment I spot my school through the car window, reality hits, and it fades away as soon as I step through those front doors. To make matters worse, I have a part-time job that I dislike, I get hardly any hours, and I’m barely making minimum wage. I’m just ready to reclaim my life. And for the juniors reading this, I’m not trying to scare you, but senior year is definitely one of the most overrated experiences in high school. Thanks for letting me vent—ugh, I can’t wait for June to arrive!
I totally get where you’re coming from! Senioritis is a real struggle, and it’s tough to feel like you’re just going through the motions after you’ve already accomplished so much. It’s great that you’ve already got your college apps out of the way and received acceptance, but it’s understandable that now it feels like there’s not much to look forward to in high school.
Sometimes it helps to find small ways to stay engaged, even if it’s just looking for new activities or projects that spark your interest, or even planning little milestones leading up to graduation. It’s also okay to feel burnt out—high school can be exhausting, and balancing a job on top of it can make it even harder.
Hang in there! You’re almost at the finish line, and even though senior year feels overrated, try to cherish the moments with your friends as much as you can. Graduation will be here before you know it, and you’ll be off to a new chapter. You’ve got this!
