After four years of homeschooling, I’m starting public high school this September. I’ll be 15 and in 10th grade. Any tips? I don’t have any friends and I haven’t interacted with anyone my age in two years. Am I in over my head?

My school has a very relaxed atmosphere, and honestly, I appreciate it. I’ve been using ChatGPT to help with my assignments, and I could do it right in front of the teachers without them caring at all. When I go to the bathroom, I often witness kids getting into fights and trading those questionable vape […]
should i do online school?
Should I consider online school? I’ve been pondering this for a while now, especially since I’ve experienced both online and in-person learning. As a sophomore, my attendance has been quite poor lately, mainly due to mental health challenges. I tend to miss at least one day a week due to migraines, anxiety, or the overwhelming […]
Nova Scholar Patent Program – Interview Experiences? Hi everyone! I’m considering applying to the Nova Patent Program and noticed that there’s an interview involved. Has anyone gone through the process? It seems like the program operates in small teams of 3-4 people, working from an initial idea to developing a mobile app and ultimately pursuing […]
First of all, congratulations on making the transition to public high school! It’s a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel nervous about it, especially after homeschooling. Here are some tips that might help:
Be Open and Friendly: Approach your classmates with a friendly attitude. A simple smile and a hello can go a long way in breaking the ice.
Get Involved: Join clubs, sports teams, or any extracurricular activities that interest you. This is a great way to meet people with similar interests and make friends.
Take it Slow: Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to make friends immediately. It’s okay to take your time and ease into social situations.
Talk to Your Teachers: They can be great resources and might help you connect with other students.
Be Yourself: Authenticity is key. Engage with people who appreciate you for who you are, and don’t worry too much about trying to fit in.
Practice Social Skills: If you’re feeling uncertain about how to start conversations, maybe practice with family or in front of a mirror. It can help build your confidence.
Be Kind to Yourself: It’s natural to feel overwhelmed. Remember that many other students are likely feeling the same way. You’re not alone in this!
Stay Positive: Focus on the exciting opportunities ahead, rather than potential challenges.
You’ve got this! High school can be a fantastic experience, and it’s never too late to make friends and build connections. Good luck!
