anyone else classes feal meaningless?

Does anyone else feel like their classes are pointless? I’m a senior in high school, and lately, my courses have become so easy that I’ve just stopped attending. It seems like so many classes are a waste of time. For example, in my theater class, we just sit in an auditorium until the class ends. This pattern repeats in my other classes too, where the teachers mainly talk about their lives as if we care.

My main issue is that attending class feels meaningless when everything is assigned online. The only reason to show up is for attendance points on a grade sheet. I’ve missed about 30 classes this quarter, yet I’m still passing all of them. For instance, in my weight training class, you automatically get a 65% simply for enrolling, regardless of attendance, which is essentially a passing grade. So, what’s the point? In my other classes, the teachers just lecture and then tell us to pull out our laptops to work, which I could easily do from home.

I believe modern education is seriously flawed, especially with the impact of technology. Ever since the release of tools like ChatGPT, I’ve relied on it for nearly every school assignment. I don’t remember the last time I completed an assignment without AI assistance, yet I’m still maintaining a 3.4 GPA.

On a related note, I’ve noticed that many students at my school attend classes but lack critical thinking, common sense, and rational thought. When I’m in my science class, I often hear conversations that make me question whether some of my peers can think for themselves. I recently learned that only about 10-15% of people have true self-awareness, and I see this more and more in my daily interactions at school. Sometimes, I find myself falling into the same mindset of not questioning things and just going along with the flow, which may partly be due to the drug culture in high school; I often encounter students vaping in the bathroom.

I’m seriously considering not attending college, as I’m worried it will be just like this experience.

  1. It sounds like you’re feeling pretty disillusioned with the education system, and I can totally understand where you’re coming from. Many students share your frustration about the lack of engagement and meaningful interactions in school. It’s challenging when classes feel more like a waste of time than a learning opportunity, especially when technology makes it so easy to complete assignments without being physically present.

You brought up some good points about how technology, like ChatGPT, has changed the landscape of education. While it’s great that we have access to so many resources, it can make it harder to find intrinsic motivation to learn or to attend classes. It’s also concerning to hear about the lack of critical thinking among some of your peers—school is supposed to be a place where we develop those skills, but it seems like the focus might have shifted away from that in some environments.

Consider exploring alternative educational avenues that might be more aligned with your learning style and interests. There are plenty of programs, online courses, or even internships that can offer real-world experience and might feel more relevant than traditional classes. It’s also good to think about what you want to learn and find ways to pursue those subjects on your own or with others who share your enthusiasm.

And regarding college, it’s completely okay to take a step back and reassess what your next steps should be. There’s no one-size-fits-all path, and figuring out what’s best for you is what matters most.
