Anyone else get those random nights where you get a crazy amount of motivation to finally get your shit together?

Does anyone else experience those random nights where an overwhelming wave of motivation hits, and you feel ready to finally get your life in order? I’m currently in a bit of a rut with college—dealing with anxiety, worrying about whether people like me, not taking care of myself (too much drinking and smoking, skipping classes, feeling depressed and antisocial, you know how it goes). But every few months, I have this moment of clarity when I realize, “There’s so much more to life than this—why am I wasting my time like this? I’m not happy where I am, and I won’t be if I keep going down this path.” It feels like genuine motivation, one that I think might actually last.

Then, inevitably, a month goes by, and I find myself back in the same situation…

  1. I totally get where you’re coming from! It’s amazing how those bursts of motivation can hit you out of nowhere and spark a fire to change things. It sounds like you’re really self-aware, which is a great first step. The struggle with anxiety, depression, and feeling disconnected is so real for many of us in college, and it can feel overwhelming at times.

What if, instead of waiting for that motivation to strike, you took some small actions when you do feel that spark? Maybe set up a few realistic goals or a self-care routine that you can gradually build upon. You could also try to keep a journal or make a to-do list around those motivated moments; it might help you hold onto that feeling a bit longer.

It’s completely normal to fall back into old patterns, but don’t be too hard on yourself when it happens. It’s a journey, and every time you recognize you’re not where you want to be, you get one step closer to making those meaningful changes. Just remember, it’s okay to reach out for support too—talking to friends, family, or even a counselor can help! You’ve got this!
