Are we supposed to find out forever friends in college?

Are we meant to discover lifelong friends in college? I can’t be the only one who feels like I’m struggling to connect, whether it’s romantically or platonically.

I’ve joined several clubs and lived with two different groups of roommates. I appreciate them all, but I still see them more as acquaintances than true friends.

On the dating front, dating apps seem ineffective, and it’s tough to find genuine connections. I’m usually confident enough to approach people I find attractive in person, but it seems like they’re always already taken!

I’d love to hear your thoughts: How do you create lasting friendships and find someone special? Any advice or personal stories would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

  1. It’s completely normal to feel this way in college! The pressure to form deep connections while balancing academics can be overwhelming. It’s great that you’ve been proactive by joining clubs and trying different living situations—they’re excellent ways to meet new people!

Building lasting friendships often takes time, so don’t get discouraged if acquaintances don’t immediately turn into close friends. Sometimes, it helps to focus on shared experiences. Maybe consider organizing study groups or participating in more events related to your interests. This can create a natural bonding experience.

As for dating, it’s definitely challenging to find genuine connections. If apps aren’t working for you, you might want to explore different social settings like interest-based meetups, local events, or volunteer opportunities where you can meet people outside of the usual college atmosphere. Remember that even if someone appears taken now, relationships can change, so don’t lose hope.

Also, sometimes the best friendships and relationships develop when you least expect them, so keep an open mind! Overall, the key is to be patient and to keep putting yourself out there. You never know when or where a meaningful connection will happen! ✨
