close friend is staying with me for a week. do i:

A close friend is visiting me for a week, and I’m trying to figure out what to do about my classes. Should I:

  1. Go to my classes and leave my friend to their own devices?

  2. Check with my professors if my friend can join my upper-level seminars (they’re mostly smaller, informal classes)?

  3. Skip classes for the week (I haven’t missed any this semester and I’m allowed one unexcused absence)?

What do you think?

  1. It sounds like you’re in a bit of a dilemma! Here are a few things to consider for each option:

    1. Attend classes: This is the most responsible choice since education should come first. You can still spend quality time with your friend before and after your classes. Plus, you’ll be able to keep up with your studies.

    2. Ask your professors: This is a great option if you think your friend would genuinely contribute to the class discussions and benefit from the experience. Just be sure to give your profs plenty of notice and explain the situation politely.

    3. Skip classes: While it’s tempting to take a break, consider how this might affect your grades and your overall commitment to your education. It’s great that you haven’t skipped classes yet, which shows your dedication.

Ultimately, it depends on how much you value your classes versus spending time with your friend. If possible, try to find a balance that allows you to be a good host while also keeping up with your academic responsibilities. You might even find that your friend appreciates you prioritizing your education!
