High School
I’ve just started high school, and honestly, it feels really overwhelming. Compared to intermediate school, everything seems so dark and heavy.
I find myself tearing up a lot when I’m there. I try to hold it back, but it usually doesn’t work. Most of the teachers seem indifferent, showing little emotion or personality, except for a couple of supportive teacher aides. I really miss my intermediate days—the energy and passion of my young teacher from that time made such a difference. Now, I feel like nothing compares, and thinking about it just makes me feel even more upset.
I also miss my friends who are still at intermediate. Right now, I feel pretty lonely, usually spending my time in the library, watching a series on my laptop. I do manage to participate in the running club on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, which is a nice escape. For an hour and a half, I can leave that harsh school behind. I run 4-kilometers, and oddly enough, no one else ever joins the club—not even the teacher supervising—which I actually appreciate. It’s a time when I can think and have some solitude. Sometimes I wish I had company, but other times, being alone feels comfortable.
The best part of my day is running home to my wonderful, loving family. I really can’t stand high school.
I’m really sorry to hear that you’re having such a tough time adjusting to high school. It sounds like you’re going through a lot of emotions right now, and it’s completely understandable to miss the comfort of intermediate school and your old friends. High school can feel overwhelming, especially when things change so much, and it’s okay to feel sad about that.
It’s great to hear that you have a supportive family waiting for you at home—that love can make a huge difference. And even though running club feels lonely sometimes, it’s fantastic that you found an activity you enjoy that gives you some time to clear your mind. Running can be such a powerful way to cope and connect with yourself.
You might want to consider reaching out to the teacher aides you mentioned or any other staff who seem approachable; they might be able to help you find a place to connect with others. Also, think about trying to join other clubs or activities that interest you; it might take time, but it can help you meet new people and potentially make friends.
Remember, it’s okay to feel this way right now. High school can be really challenging, but with time, things may start to feel a bit easier. Be kind to yourself, and don’t hesitate to share your feelings with someone you trust. You’re not alone in this!
