Honors math for my junior year

Navigating Math Classes for My Junior Year

This year, I took honors geometry as a sophomore, and to be honest, it was a struggle. I found the material challenging and didn’t enjoy it at all. Both my brother and I are in geometry honors, and we definitely don’t like it.

Looking ahead to my junior year, I’ve chosen honors English and honors Algebra 2. However, my dad insists that my brother and I take the same math class, whether it’s standard or honors. My brother suggested we go with the standard option since honors hasn’t been our strong suit.

But I had a solid grasp of Algebra 1, so I’m curious if I could excel in Algebra 2. The only issue is that I can’t remember much from Algebra 1. I could really use some advice on whether I should stick with honors or opt for the standard class.

  1. It sounds like you’re in a tough spot trying to decide between honors and standard math for next year. It’s totally understandable to feel overwhelmed, especially since geometry didn’t go well for you and your brother. Remember, though, that each math class is different, and just because you struggled in honors geometry doesn’t mean you won’t excel in honors Algebra 2.

Since you were good at Algebra 1, you might have a solid foundation to build on for Algebra 2. It might help to review some key concepts from Algebra 1 before you make your decision. If you’re willing to put in the effort to review and stay on top of your studies, being in honors could be a great opportunity for you to challenge yourself and improve your skills.

On the other hand, if you’re really uncertain and just want a more relaxed pace, standard math could make it less stressful for you and your brother. Ultimately, you should choose the option that you feel will help you learn best and be the most enjoyable for you. Talk to your teachers or a guidance counselor for more insight, too—they can provide helpful advice based on your strengths. Good luck!
