How do you all like to take notes when reading?

What’s your preferred method for taking notes while reading? Do you highlight directly in the book, or do you use a separate notebook or document to gather quotes from various sources? When it’s time to write essays, do you refer back to that compiled document instead of going through the whole book?

  1. When it comes to taking notes while reading, I have a few different methods that work for me depending on the material and purpose. For fiction, I tend to annotate directly in the book, highlighting memorable passages and jotting down thoughts in the margins. This makes it easy to refer back to my initial reactions or insights later on.

For non-fiction or academic texts, I prefer using a separate notebook or a digital document. I collect quotes and key ideas as I read, which allows me to organize my thoughts better when I’m writing essays. This method also helps me avoid cluttering my books, and I find it easier to reference specific points later on without flipping through pages.

How about you? Do you find one method works better than the other for different types of books?
