High School Course Selection for CS/Physics Majors
Hey everyone! I’m a sophomore in high school aiming to major in Computer Science and minor in Physics (or vice versa).
This year, I’m taking AP Calculus AB and AP Physics 1, and I managed to secure straight A’s in both subjects for the first semester. My only blemish so far is a B in Chemistry from freshman year, which has made me a bit anxious about its impact on my prospective major in Physics.
As I start planning my junior year courses, I’ve settled on the following classes:
– AP Literature
– Civics/Contemporary World Problems
– Spanish 4
– Special Topics in Computer Science
– Advanced Calculus
– AP Physics C
I still have one spot left for an elective, and I’m considering two options:
1. AP Physics: Electricity & Magnetism
2. Running Start, where I could take courses like Thermodynamics, Data Structures, and Networking.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on which option would be more beneficial for my future in Computer Science or Physics. I’m feeling a bit stressed since my junior year transcript will heavily influence my college applications! Thanks!
You’re already on a great path with your current coursework in AP Calculus AB and AP Physics 1, especially if you’re maintaining straight A’s! Don’t stress too much about the B in chemistry; colleges look for improvement and overall academic rigor, and you’ve demonstrated that with your strong performance in your current courses.
