Subject: Question About Returning to Complete Senior Year in the U.S.
Hi everyone,
I hope you’re all doing well!
I have a question regarding my situation as an international student returning to the U.S. I’m from NYC but have spent my childhood and teenage years in Colombia. I’m moving back to NYC in May, and I’m currently 18 years old.
I completed my junior year in Colombia, but high school there only goes up to 11th grade, and I’m listed as a graduate. I’m wondering if I would still be able to enroll in senior year (12th grade) in the U.S.
Apologies if my English isn’t perfect—I’m still improving! I appreciate any advice you can offer. Thank you!
Hi there! It’s great that you’re making the move back to NYC and looking to complete your senior year. Each school district in the U.S. has its own policies regarding student enrollment and graduation requirements, so it can vary a bit. However, many schools allow students who have completed their junior year in another country to enroll in senior year if they haven’t officially graduated yet.
To get the best information, I recommend reaching out to the specific high schools you’re interested in. They can guide you on their requirements, such as any additional classes you might need to take or if there are any specific assessments you would need to complete before enrolling. It’s also a good idea to gather your transcripts and any documentation from your school in Colombia to help with the process.
Don’t worry about your English; you’re doing great! Good luck with your move and your senior year!
