I need help!!

I need some guidance!
I still have my school-issued computer from 8th grade, even though I’m no longer attending. I’m unsure what to do with it since I’ve had it for about 3-4 years now. It’s in perfect condition, but I don’t know if I would be charged a fine for keeping it, and the school doesn’t seem to have a policy regarding this situation. Should I return it, or is it too late for that? I had spoken with my counselors about my move, so they were aware of my situation. I also have no idea where to turn in the computer. Should I just dispose of it or attempt to return it? Any advice would be appreciated!

  1. It sounds like you’re in a bit of a tough spot! Here are a few options you could consider:

    1. Contact Your School: Since you mentioned that the school knew about your move, it’s a good idea to reach out to them directly. Explain your situation and ask if they would like you to return the computer. They may have a specific process for this.

    2. Check for Policies: Even if there’s no specific policy you remember, it’s worth checking the school district’s website or speaking to someone in the administration to see if there are any guidelines on returning older devices.

    3. Return It: If the school wants it back and it’s in good condition, returning it might be the best option. It could be reused for other students who need it.

    4. Donate or Recycle: If the school doesn’t want it back and you don’t have a need for it, consider donating it to a local charity or recycling it at an e-waste center. Make sure to wipe any personal data from the computer if you go this route!

    5. Keep It: If you think you might use it in the future or if it has sentimental value, keeping it is also a valid option—just make sure it doesn’t take up too much space!

Ultimately, communication with your school is key. They’ll be able to tell you what the best next steps are!
