I need some advice

Seeking Some Guidance!

I’m finalizing my schedule for next year in just two days, and I’m feeling a bit uncertain about my class choices. So far, I’ve committed to honors Math 1, honors English, and AP World History. However, I’m torn between choosing AVID as my elective or taking Spanish—since I need to complete a language requirement anyway.

I’m worried about overwhelming myself with too much work, but I also have my sights set on getting into the University of San Diego or UC Berkeley, which makes me feel like I should push myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. It sounds like you’re at an important decision-making point in your academic journey! Here are a few things to consider that might help you make your choice:

    1. Workload Balance: Since you’re already taking a challenging course load with honors math, honors English, and AP World, it’s crucial to think about how much additional work you’re willing to take on. AVID can provide great support and resources for college preparation, but if you feel it might add too much to your plate, it might be better to focus on Spanish for now.

    2. Spanish Requirement: If you need a foreign language for graduation or college applications, taking Spanish this year could be a wise choice. It will fulfill that requirement while also giving you a valuable skill.

    3. Future Goals: Consider what each option could mean for your future. AVID could provide connections and opportunities that might benefit your college applications, while strong performance in a language can also help you stand out.

    4. Personal Interest: Think about what you enjoy more. If you have a strong interest in Spanish or feel you would benefit from language skills, that might make the class more engaging.

    5. Talk to Advisors or Teachers: Sometimes, discussing your options with someone who knows you well can provide new perspectives or insights.

Ultimately, it’s about finding a balance between challenge and manageability. Make sure you choose what feels right for you! Whatever you decide, best of luck with your schedule and your college ambitions!
