I skipped a year of high school and I’m going to college this fall

I skipped a year of high school, and I’m heading to college this fall! I’ll be turning seventeen during most of my freshman year, and I can’t help but feel a bit anxious about how others might perceive me. I know it’s silly, but I’m concerned that people will see me as just a kid. Social situations have always been a bit challenging for me, and I worry that my age might make it harder to connect with others or feel like a true peer.

I realize this might seem like a trivial concern to some, but growing up in a small, judgmental town has made me more sensitive to how I might be viewed.

Edit: I appreciate all the supportive responses! I’m getting more excited about college and feeling less anxious about this. Thank you!

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel that way, especially after growing up in a small town where everyone knows each other. Just remember that college is a fresh start, and people are generally more open-minded and accepting. You’re not alone in feeling a little out of place; many incoming freshmen are nervous about fitting in, regardless of their age.

In college, people will value your interests, personality, and what you bring to the table much more than your age. Focus on finding groups or clubs that align with your passions—this can be a great way to meet like-minded individuals and form friendships based on common interests.

Also, don’t hesitate to share your experiences and perspectives; they can enrich conversations and create connections with others. Embrace the unique journey you’ve had, and use it to your advantage. Ultimately, being open and authentic will help you connect with others who appreciate you for who you are.

It’s awesome to hear that you’re feeling more excited about college now! Keep that positive energy as you start this new chapter. You’ve got this! 😊
