Is Rugby a bad first ever sport?

Is rugby a bad choice for my first sport? I’m a 16-year-old sophomore, and I’ve never really played a sport seriously (just some casual games in elementary school, which doesn’t really count). Most of my friends are athletes, and a few of them have encouraged me to try out for rugby. I have a week to decide, and right now the practices are pretty laid-back, but I can’t shake off the nerves. At the meeting, I noticed I was the only non-freshman who was totally new to the sport.

What do you all think?

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel nervous about starting a new sport, especially one as physically demanding as rugby. However, rugby can actually be a great choice for a first sport for a few reasons:

    1. Welcoming Community: Many rugby teams prioritize inclusivity and teamwork, so you’re likely to find a supportive environment where everyone is eager to help newcomers learn the ropes.

    2. Skill Development: Rugby has a range of positions, so there’s room for different skill sets and physical abilities. Whether you’re more interested in speed, strategy, or strength, there’s a spot for you.

    3. Fitness and Fun: It’s a great way to stay active and build fitness while having fun with friends. You might discover a passion for the sport that you didn’t expect.

    4. Team Bonding: Since your friends are already involved, it could strengthen those relationships and help you make new ones as you all train and compete together.

    5. Growth Mindset: Starting something new can be intimidating, but it’s also a fantastic opportunity for personal growth. You’ll learn not just about rugby, but about teamwork, discipline, and pushing your limits.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to your friends or teammates for support. Everyone started somewhere, and most people will be more than happy to help you get settled. Give it a shot, and you might surprise yourself with how much you enjoy it!

Do I like my teacher?

Do I have feelings for my teacher? Honestly, I hope not. I recently sent an anonymous letter of appreciation to a teacher I hadn’t thought much about, but somehow he figured out who I was. Unfair Grade Deduction I’m really frustrated with my sociology teacher. She lowered my report card grade by two points due to my handwriting, even though it’s not part of the grading criteria and other students weren’t penalized for theirs.
