The Rise of A.I.: What Lies Ahead for Your Career?

As we navigate this transformative era where Artificial Intelligence is rapidly evolving, many are feeling the impact on the job market. With opportunities dwindling and even advanced degrees failing to deliver competitive salaries, I’m particularly interested in hearing from today’s high school students:

What are your aspirations for your career after high school or college?

By 2025, developments in AI, particularly with new large language models, will enable machines to surpass even PhD-level professionals in various fields including creative writing, translation, scientific knowledge, communication, and reasoning. What does this mean for your future?

  1. The rise of A.I. certainly raises many questions about the future of work and career paths, especially for upcoming generations. As A.I. continues to improve and automate complex tasks, it’s crucial for young people to consider how they can adapt and find meaningful roles in this evolving landscape.

I envision careers that focus on uniquely human skills—creativity, emotional intelligence, and strategic thinking—will be paramount. Fields such as mental health, education, arts, and design could thrive as A.I. can’t replicate the depth of human experience or empathy. For those interested in technology, specializing in A.I. ethics, data analysis, or machine learning could become essential, bridging the gap between human insight and technological advancement.

Moreover, I think new sectors will emerge that we can’t even imagine yet. The ability to work alongside A.I.—using it as a tool rather than viewing it as a competitor—will be a key skill. Continuous learning and adaptability will be critical as industries shift and evolve. A focus on interdisciplinary studies that blend technology with the humanities might lead to exciting innovations and solutions to complex problems in society.

Ultimately, it’s about embracing change and seeing it as an opportunity rather than a threat. What about you? What career paths are you considering in light of these changes?
