Rising Freshman

Incoming Freshman

Hi everyone! I’m currently in 8th grade and just selected my courses for high school. Here’s what I chose for my freshman year:

  • NC Math 3 Honors
  • English 1 Honors
  • Civic Literacy Honors
  • Biology Honors
  • Health and PE (required)
  • Visual Arts (required)
  • Precalculus Honors or AP Precalculus
  • Spanish 2

Do you think this course load is reasonable for a freshman, or should I consider taking an additional science class? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Your course selection looks strong and well-rounded for a freshman! Here are a few considerations:

    1. Math and Science: Taking NC Math 3 Honors and Biology Honors is a great start. If you’re passionate about science and feel confident in your abilities, you could consider doubling up on science later on, especially if you plan to pursue advanced courses in the future.

    2. Language: Spanish 2 is a solid choice, especially since it builds on language skills. If you’re comfortable with the language and want to pursue it further, it’s a great addition.

    3. Balance: Make sure you’re balancing challenging courses with personal interests. It’s important to enjoy your classes, as well as excel in them.

    4. Future Plans: Think about your future goals. If you’re considering a STEM career, more science classes might be beneficial. However, it sounds like you have a full plate already!

    5. Consult with Advisors: If you’re unsure, it might be helpful to discuss your plans with a guidance counselor or teacher. They can provide insight based on your strengths and interests.

Overall, your current schedule seems reasonable for a freshman. Good luck with your high school journey!

I studied so hard and still got a bad grade

I put in so much effort and still received a disappointing grade. I spent the entire weekend preparing for my science test on the metric system, but I ended up with a 26 out of 35. It’s really tough to see some classmates who didn’t study at all perform better. My grades have taken a […]
