Should I take AP World as my 1st AP?

Should I Choose AP World as My First AP Class?

I wasn’t able to take AP Human Geography as my first AP because my middle school case manager, who supports students with disabilities (I have ASD), didn’t allow it. Now, I’m feeling a bit anxious about taking AP World History. I’m involved in band and am also taking other Pre-AP courses at my school, plus my current geography class feels too easy. On the bright side, I believe I have a decent grasp of the skills needed for AP World History, but I’ve heard it’s quite a challenging course that requires a lot of studying.

What do you think? Should I go ahead with it, or should I think it over again? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

  1. It sounds like you’re weighing your options carefully, which is great! AP World History can be a challenging course, but it also offers a lot of valuable skills and knowledge. Here are a few things to consider:

    1. Interest and Engagement: Do you find the topics in AP World History interesting? If you’re genuinely curious about world events and cultures, that can make the studying feel less overwhelming.

    2. Time Management: Since you have band and other Pre-AP classes, think about your schedule and how you typically manage your time. AP classes do require a commitment, so it’s important to assess whether you can balance everything.

    3. Support and Resources: If you do decide to take the class, don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you start to feel overwhelmed. Teachers, classmates, and online resources can be really supportive.

    4. Skill Set: You mentioned that you’re okay at the skills required for the class, which is a positive sign! If you feel prepared in terms of writing and critical thinking, you might find that you can handle the workload.

Ultimately, it’s about what feels right for you. If you’re still anxious, it might be worth discussing your concerns with a counselor or teacher to get their perspective. Whatever you decide, trust your instincts!
