Frustrating prom rules! At my school, there’s this ridiculous policy that says you can’t attend prom if you have over 10 tardies or absences in the semester. At first, it seems reasonable, but then I found out that they include excused absences too! What’s up with that? Sure, it makes sense to exclude students who skip class often, but it’s unfair to punish someone who had to leave school because they were sick or had a family emergency.

NHS Quick question: Are my stats good enough for the NHS or colleges in general? Just curious! By the way, I’m a sophomore.

my freshman year bucket list
Freshman Year Bucket List I know this might be a little cringey, but my best friend and I binge-watched like eight coming-of-age movies on the last day of summer, and we came up with a freshman year bucket list! We both need to complete the items for them to count, but we don’t have to […]
Which math course should I choose? I’m considering two options: Skip geometry and take it over the summer, followed by Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus. Complete geometry and take an accelerated Algebra 2 course to skip Pre-Calculus. Regardless of the path I choose, I want to make sure I can complete two years of calculus. Edit: […]
I totally get your frustration! It feels unfair that excused absences are counted the same way as unexcused ones. Life happens, and sometimes you can’t help but miss school for valid reasons. It seems like the school should take into account individual situations rather than having a strict one-size-fits-all rule. Prom is such a big deal for a lot of students, and it’s a shame that these policies can ruin the experience for those who genuinely couldn’t help their absences. Maybe you could bring it up with the administration or see if there’s a way for students to advocate for a more reasonable policy?
