Was I dumb to not use the other two attempts on my exam to focus on a class I was doing worse in?

Did I make a mistake by not using my two remaining attempts on my exam to prioritize a class where I’m struggling?

This is an online course, and I scored an 85 on the exam, which has kept my overall grade at an 87. Since I’m doing worse in another class, where I currently have an 80, I decided not to use those attempts on the exam. Now I’m wondering if I should have tried to improve my exam score instead. What do you think? Should I have focused more on the exam, or was it wiser to concentrate on the class where I’m not performing as well?

I’m leaning towards the first option, but finding motivation was tough because, even though 85 isn’t stellar, it’s still a decent score.

Edit: There are three exams and about ten quizzes left in the course.

  1. It sounds like you made a calculated decision based on your current standings in both classes. An 85 on the exam is a solid score, and if you’re feeling comfortable with that grade in the class with the 87, it may have been reasonable to allocate your efforts to the other class where you’re not doing as well.

Every situation is unique, and it’s important to consider your overall goals for both classes. If your strategy is to improve your grade in the class where you have an 80, focusing your energy there could pay off, especially with several exams and quizzes remaining.

You might also think about your long-term goals and how each class fits into them. If you expect to be able to maintain or improve your current grade with the quizzes and remaining exams, focusing on the class where you’re struggling could be the right choice.

If you felt unmotivated to attempt the exam again and are okay with the 85, then you likely made the right choice for yourself at that moment. Remember, maintaining balance across your classes is key, so weigh your options as you move forward. Good luck with the rest of your semester!
