What do AC and ON indicate on a report card or transcript?
Report Card Example

I’m seeing a lot of Z’s and N’s, but I’m having trouble understanding what they represent.

  1. AC typically stands for “Absent/Excused,” which indicates that a student was absent from class but had a valid reason for doing so. ON usually stands for “Outstanding,” which can indicate that a student has performed exceptionally well in that particular area.

As for the Z’s and N’s, they may represent “Zero” and “No,” respectively. A Z could indicate that the student did not complete an assignment, while an N might reflect a “Needs Improvement” or a “Not Proficient” designation.

It’s best to check with your school or review the grading key on the transcript for exact definitions, as they can vary between districts or schools.
