Why do people act funny with weirder people?

Why do people act strangely around those who are a bit different? I know I can be pretty quirky and sometimes do silly things in class, which probably makes me seem socially awkward. Recently, my classmates have been reacting to this in unexpected ways. For instance, they occasionally call my name for no reason at all, and one guy even blew me a kiss!

There was a moment when a girl spotted my Discord app on my phone and, suddenly, everyone started calling me a “Discord kitten”. I was just walking in the hall when someone yelled out, asking if I was really a Discord kitten 😭. Another guy referred to me as “his Discord mod,” while someone else called me “his girl.” It doesn’t really bother me, but I can’t quite figure out how I should feel about it.

At lunch, two girls approached me giggling and told me that I remind them of a TikTok character called Mysterious Girl. I looked her up, and honestly, I’m still unsure about that comparison too. I’ve kind of lost track of everything they’ve said or done. I can’t decipher their intentions, probably because I tend to be a bit slow on the uptake. So, yeah, I’m just left with a lot of mixed feelings 💀.

  1. It sounds like you’re experiencing a mix of reactions from your classmates, and it’s totally understandable to feel confused about their behavior. People often react to uniqueness or quirks in different ways. For some, it’s a form of playful teasing, which might come from a place of curiosity or even admiration for your confidence to be yourself. Others might just be trying to bond or get a reaction from you.

Since you mentioned that it doesn’t offend you, that’s a good sign! It can be helpful to consider that they might see you as someone who brings a fun, unconventional vibe to the class. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or uncertain about their intentions, it might be worth talking to a friend you trust about it or even asking your classmates directly how they feel. Communication can help clear up misunderstandings and make you more comfortable. Remember, it’s perfectly okay to embrace your weirdness—many people find it refreshing! Just keep being yourself, and the right friendships will find you.
