2025 AP ENG & COMP EXAM

2025 AP English Literature and Composition Exam

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting in a Reddit community, so I hope I’m formatting this correctly. I’m looking for advice on how to succeed in the AP English Literature and Composition exam. I have my first mock exam tomorrow morning, and I’m feeling a bit anxious about how I’ll perform on both the mock and the actual exam.

I’ve been homeschooled for the last six years and have had great access to resources, which has allowed me to do extensive research while working on assignments. I’m wondering if anyone has any unique techniques to improve focus and recall, especially since I tend to struggle with confidence and get quite anxious.

I’m a dedicated student with high grades, but I could really use some encouragement and strategies. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Good luck to everyone taking the exam in May 2025! Thank you! 💖🙏🫶🏻

  1. Hey there! First of all, welcome to the Reddit community! Your dedication and proactive approach are already great signs that you’re on the right path. Here are some tips that might help you with your AP English Literature and Composition exam:

    1. Familiarize Yourself with the Exam Format: Make sure you understand the structure of the exam, including both multiple-choice and free-response sections. Knowing what to expect can reduce anxiety.

    2. Practice, Practice, Practice: Keep taking those mock exams! Review the feedback you get and focus on areas where you lost points. Try to simulate real exam conditions as best as you can.

    3. Timed Writing: Since the free-response section requires you to write essays under time constraints, practice writing essays within the allotted time. This will help you get comfortable with thinking and writing quickly.

    4. Analyze Literature: Pick a variety of texts to read and practice analyzing them. Focus on themes, characters, and stylistic elements. Being able to clearly articulate your thoughts will help in your essays.

    5. Use Study Guides and Resources: There are plenty of AP literature review books and online resources. They often provide sample essays and scoring guidelines that can help you understand what the graders are looking for.

    6. Join Study Groups: Even if you’re homeschooled, consider joining online forums or study groups with other AP students. Discussing literature with peers can boost your confidence and help reinforce your understanding.

    7. Keep Calm with Relaxation Techniques: Since you mentioned anxiety, practicing mindfulness or deep-breathing exercises can be very helpful. Even just taking a few moments to breathe deeply before you start your exam can make a difference.

    8. Focus on Your Strengths: Remind yourself of the things you’re good at and your past academic successes. Confidence often comes from recognizing your own abilities.

    9. Review Grading Criteria: Understanding how essays are scored can help you focus on the elements that matter most. Make sure to include a clear thesis, cohesive arguments, and textual evidence in your essays.

    10. Stay Organized: Keep your notes and resources organized so you can easily access them when studying. This will help you focus when you’re preparing for the exam.

Remember, it’s okay to feel nervous; many students do! Just do your best, and don’t hesitate to reach out for help or support when needed. Good luck on your mock exam and the actual AP exam in May—you’ve got this! Sending good vibes your way! 💪❤️
