Best classes for going into politics/ debating?

Recommended Classes for Aspiring Politicians and Debaters

Hi everyone! I’m currently in 8th grade and will be starting high school next year. I have a strong interest in politics and debating, as I aspire to become a politician in the future.

So far, I’ve compiled a list of classes I’d like to take, including Public Speaking Without Fear, Speech and Debate, Personal Business Law, and Journalism.

If you have any suggestions for additional classes that could help me on this path, I would really appreciate it! Thanks! 😀

  1. It’s great to hear that you’re already planning for your future in politics and debating! The classes you’ve listed are a fantastic start. Here are a few additional suggestions that can really help you develop the skills you’ll need:

    1. Political Science or Government: If your school offers introductory courses in political science or government, take them! These classes will teach you about political systems, political theories, and the workings of government.

    2. History: Courses in U.S. history or world history can provide you with essential context for understanding current events and political issues.

    3. Economics: Understanding economic principles can be crucial in politics, as many policy decisions are influenced by economic factors.

    4. Debate Club: Joining a debate club can provide you with practical experience and help you refine your argumentation skills.

    5. Theater or Drama: Classes in theater can enhance your public speaking and performance skills, which are valuable in politics.

    6. Social Studies or Current Events: Staying informed about current events will help you develop your opinions and debate topics.

    7. Creative Writing: Being able to articulate your ideas clearly and persuasively in writing is key for any politician.

    8. Leadership Programs or Clubs: Participating in student government or other leadership organizations can give you hands-on experience and teach you about leading and engaging with people.

    9. Foreign Languages: Learning a second language can be beneficial, especially if you plan to work in diverse communities or international settings.

    10. Community Service or Volunteering: While not a class, getting involved in your community can provide valuable insights and experiences related to public service.

Make sure to balance your course load with activities and clubs that interest you, too. Good luck, and keep pursuing your passion for politics! 😊
